About

This blog is written by Fredrik Wallner, an organic chemist that has ended up in computer and information handling.

I will write on cheminformatics, programming (mainly in Python), some data science (also in Python) and occasionally on sysadmin stuff. Sometimes, the posts are mostly for myself to remember how I did something and other times they can contain tips, tricks or questions interesting for a wider public.

My main occupation is at a rather small biotech company that develops drugs to treat Parkinson Disease. The company is called IRLAB and I'm working with computations and informatics on everything from chemistry to clinical data.

I also have a company of my own, Wallner Medicinal Chemistry AB. Here I have developed an electronic lab notebook for organic chemists, ecLabNote. I have also done consulting work for academic groups as well as larger companies such as AstraZeneca and Akzo Nobel (currently Noyron).

I am a (mainly) self trained programmer since I got my first computer (a ZX Spectrum + in my early teens. In addition to tons of games on casette tapes, I got a 1000 pages book with games. Ready to type and play!

Nowadays, I mostly program in Python. Often with a data science edge and a web interface to develop internal software or analyzing data.
